What to Know About Baby Changing Tables

As a new parent, you’re probably aware that baby changing tables are an important part of your home. No matter how much of a minimalist you were before having a child, chances are you’ll be adding furniture and accessories to your home as soon as your little one arrives. It’s not enough for baby changing tables to simply be functional–they need to look good too!

What is a changing table?

A changing table is typically an elevated platform that features a safety strap or other device to hold your baby in place while you change his or her diaper. They are usually made of wood or plastic, but they come in different designs and can be used with either gender of child. Some models even have storage compartments for extra supplies like diapers, wipes and creams.

Why do you need one?

While some people say that babies don’t need any help with diapering when they’re first born (and nothing could be further from the truth), most parents find that using a changing table makes their lives easier later on when their babies start crawling around and walking around with only minimal supervision. The fact is that kids aren’t always cooperative when it comes time for a diaper change, so having something sturdy nearby where you can put them down on top of will save

You’ll want to consider how you are going to use the changing table

The first thing to consider is how you plan on using your changing table. Are you going to use it daily, or only occasionally? Will it be used as a changing station in your home or will it need to be portable? Where will the changing table go in your home? How much space do you have available, and what materials are best for the location where it will be placed (for example: wood versus metal).

Changing station height is important, particularly if you have two floors in your home

If you have two floors in your home, it’s important that your changing station is at a height that allows you to change your baby without having to bend over. You may be able to get away with a shorter table if you have a high ceiling and don’t mind bending over, but if not–and especially if there’s more than one person in the house who will be using the table–it’s worth investing in something tall enough for both parents and grandparents alike.

Available options

Changing tables can be sold as single units or in packages that include a changing pad and other items. The most common package includes the changing table itself, a diaper pail, wipes dispenser and/or storage basket. Some changing tables are sold as part of a set with your crib.

If you’re buying a separate changing table, make sure it fits your needs before you commit to purchasing one. You’ll want something sturdy enough to hold your baby securely while he’s being changed but not so heavy that moving it around will be difficult for you (and potentially dangerous for him).

Choose furniture that can be used with your child as they grow

There are a lot of reasons why you might want to choose furniture that can be used for more than one purpose. For example, if you were planning on using your new commercial baby changing table as a dresser or desk when your child grows up and needs their own space in their room, then it makes sense to invest in something that will last longer than just being a diaper-changing station.

The same goes with toy organizers–if you buy one now and then get another one later when your child has outgrown the first one (and their toys), it’ll save money on buying two separate sets of shelves or bins at once!

Consider the look of a changing table, too-not just its functionality

You’ll also want to consider the look of a changing table, too–not just its functionality. If you have an existing nursery with a color scheme or design in mind for your baby’s room, it’s important that your changing table matches that aesthetic. This can be especially helpful if you plan on using this piece of furniture as both a changing station and storage space for diapers and other supplies later on down the line; having something that matches makes everything more visually cohesive.

Choosing a changing table with an appropriate color or design will help ensure that it will grow well with your child as he gets older. For example, if he’s still an infant when he starts using his crib (which many parents choose), then maybe look at getting something with neutral colors like black or white so that it won’t clash with any other pieces of furniture in his room–and then once he grows out of those items but still needs somewhere comfortable place sit while getting dressed during cold weather months? Consider investing in something colorful like bright blue so kids aren’t bored by their surroundings!

If you’re going to be using this piece of furniture every day for years to come, it makes sense to choose one that works well with your home and looks good too. We hope we’ve helped you get started on your search for the perfect baby changing table!
