    While AI offers great promise in personalizing care for seniors, it must be used with caution and integrity. Algorithms must be trained on age-diverse datasets to avoid age-related bias. It’s also important for providers to make sure the data they use is complete, correct, and clearly communicated when shaping a care plan. 

    It’s especially important for healthcare professionals to prioritize informed consent, particularly when working with older adults who may have cognitive challenges, and to clearly explain the role AI plays in their care. When used thoughtfully, AI can support clinical expertise and help ensure care remains ethical and equitable. 

    The Future of Geriatric Spine Surgery

    As the field of spinal surgery continues to evolve, AI will play a larger role in ensuring that care remains effective, personalized and safe for older adults. Looking ahead, emerging predictive models may begin to factor in cognitive decline, mental health, and the availability of social support, which are critical elements of senior care that are too often overlooked.
