Today’s women are undertaking a quest for fitness! Last year around 5 million women in Australia participated in sports and fitness activities. Whether they live in the town or the country, women are getting up, going out, and getting fit!
One of the most important things that women need to take into account as they pursue these worthy fitness goals is the type of clothing they wear during their workouts. Breathable, moisture-wicking fabrics that provide the right amount of flexibility as well as protection from the elements are a key to success. You can find great workout clothes at PE Nation in a wide variety of forms and fashions to suit your personal tastes and the requirements of your intended activities!
Let’s list the kinds of workout clothes that are generally recommended, beginning with a catch-all collection for your beach workouts:
First up is your swimsuit, a good old-fashioned one-piece, or a two-piece bikini that allows more ventilation and freedom of movement.
Using the swimsuit as your base, you can add layers by wearing a rash guard, which is a lightweight bodysuit or top designed to protect your skin from solar rays and prevent rashes.
A great option for bottoms are boardshorts fashioned from quick-drying, lightweight fabrics. Boardshorts that are shorter increase your range of motion while swimming, while longer cuts protect your legs from sunburn.
When it’s too chilly out for shorts, you can put on your surf leggings! These water-repellent, lotion and chlorine-resistant leggings look great, and also provide a layer of defence from harmful UV radiation.
Now, let’s dry off for the land workouts, which we will divide by activity:
Running– The basics are a loose-fitting, breathable t-shirt and lightweight running shorts. Add a long-sleeved top and tights along with a windbreaker for blustery weather.
Yoga & Pilates – These exercises are all about freedom of movement, so a sports bra, fitted top, and yoga pants or other flexible leggings are needed. These can be loose or tight fitting, as long as they aren’t restrictive and have no loose ends like drawstrings. Don’t forget your yoga mat and a towel!
Hiking – A truly waterproof jacket coupled with an optional warming fleece, comfortable shorts, and leggings or insulated pants, depending on the weather. Make sure to layer up so you can shed them as you warm up from the exertion. Make sure to have some head protection, a floppy sun-blocking hat and sunglasses are a must. If it’s really going to get chilly, bring a pair of gloves!
Cycling – You will need a pair of flexible padded bike shorts and leggings, a fitted top, and a light, weather-proof jacket. Don’t forget your helmet! Don’t wear loose-fitting clothes, they can present a hazard by getting caught in the gears! Add some reflective patches to every item of clothing to be extra safe, and make sure your bike’s headlight is operational in case you come back late!
There are special clothes for every kind of sport and workout of course, too many to list them all here, but these basics should be enough to get you up and running, or swimming, or cycling- you get the idea!
