6 Common Signs of Pest Infestation to Look Out For

Are you worried about the infestation of pests in your home?

Inspecting your home regularly can help you stay ahead of the problem. Pests can find their way into your home by themselves or through anything you bring inside. These pests not only damage your property but also can cause health issues.

Identifying them early can help keep them from expanding their population in your home. This blog post will show you the top six warning signs of pest infestation so you can keep them out for good.

    1. Droppings

Often the first sign of a pest infestation is droppings. Most pests like rats, mice, and cockroaches leave behind feces.

The size and shape of these droppings can show which type of pest you are dealing with. For example, if you see small, round, and black droppings, it could be mice.

    2. Strange Noises

You might hear these sounds late at night when the pests become more active. Rats and mice can often be heard scurrying in walls and ceilings.

Squeaking and rustling are common sounds too. Insects like termites can produce clicking sounds when they are eating wood.

    3. Holes and Gnaw Marks

Holes in doors or walls are telltale signs of pests. Rodents can gnaw or dig through wood, which results in holes or visible entry points in your walls or furniture. Gnawing marks on wires or fixtures may indicate that rodents are chewing on them.

    4. Unpleasant Odor

Unpleasant smells in your home could be a sign of rodents, termites, or other pests present on your property.

Another common odor you may notice is something like ammonia. This indicates the presence of animal urine. This is a sign of rats or mice, as they tend to urine everywhere they go.

    5. Nests or Webs

Pests such as wasps, spiders, and rats tend to create nests and webs in dark, secluded areas such as attics, basements, and garages. These nests can cause harm to you and your family and can be a breeding ground for a new generation of pests. Look for any areas that might not have been cleaned or unused for a long time, as pests are drawn to dark and cluttered spaces.

    6. Damaged Plants

If you have a garden, you might have noticed that some plants become weak and damaged over time. This might not be because they are old or sick, but rather because of a pest infestation. Pests such as aphids, spider mites, and leafhoppers feed on vegetation, which causes spots, holes, and discoloration on leaves.

This can make the plants look unhealthy and lead to death. To identify a pest-infested plant, examine the leaves, flowers, and stems. Look for signs of discoloration, distortion, curling, or wilting.

You might even see the pests themselves, such as small bugs or shiny webs on the plant. If you suspect that your plants are infested with pests, take action and call an emergency pest control to protect them.

Discover the Key Signs of Pest Infestation to Safeguard Your Space

Knowing these signs of pest infestation can help you identify which pest you are dealing with in your home and determine the severity of the infestation. Once you have identified the infestation, it’s important to contact a pest control service to remove it from your home.

Regular home inspection and maintenance and clearing away clutter will reduce damaged items caused by pest infestation. Protect your home from pests and enjoy a clean and healthy living space.
